Word of the Week 5.18.09: Short Message Service (SMS)

Each week, sn&u will define a term from the social networking and social media arena. This week’s Word of the Week is a frequently used acronym.

SMS is the abbreviation for Short Message Service. SMS is a communication service that allows mobile telephone users to send and receive short text messages between mobile devices. Social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook are using SMS technology; users can update their status, send/receive messages, and invite friends using their mobile devices.
