Pew Research Reveals Details about Twitter Users

According to Pew Internet Reseach, Twitter is popular with young adults, minorities, and those livining in urban areas. 

The report doesn't mention how popular Twitter is with media outlets like broadcast news and bloggers.  If your organization is looking for media exposure, Twitter is a viable tool.

LinkedIn and Twitter for BlackBerry

The full release of LinkedIn for BlackBerry v1.0 is now available.  According to LinkedIn, the application supports the following BlackBerry models: Tour, Curve, and Bold devices running Blackberry OS v4.3 or later. 

The application features six modules: 

  • Network Updates
  • Search
  • Connections
  • Invitations
  • Messages
  • Reconnect

From BlackBerry, the official Twitter application is now in beta release and available for download. Some of the features include:

  • Sending and receiving Direct Messages
  • Replying to tweets and re-tweeting

foursquare for Business Use

foursquare is a social networking tool that allows you to discover where your friends are located geographically (e.g. airport, bookstore, office building, coffee shop).  The foursquare website describes their application as "a cross between a friend-finder, a social city-guide and a game that rewards you for doing interesting things." 

There's some buzz about foursquare potentially becoming an enterprise tool for business. In a ReadWrite Blog post, Hutch Carpenter of Spigit explains that there's typically a two-year lag before enterprise adopts a social computing trend.  Full ReadWrite post.

Facebook by the Numbers

With more than 400 million active users, Facebook has a lot of numbers to crunch.  Here are some interesting statistics from Facebook:

  • 50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day

  • Average user spends more than 55 minutes per day on Facebook

  • More than 5 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photo albums, etc.) shared each week

  • More than 1.5 million local businesses have active Pages on Facebook

  • More than 20 million people become fans of Pages each day

  • About 70% of Facebook users are outside the United States
